Tonbridge Coach Tours

Tonbridge is a market town located to the shores of the River Medway. There has been several speculations about how the town got its name; some say it was from the Anglo-Saxons or because of the several streams the town crosses hence the word ‘town of bridges’ or Tonbridge. As interesting as the town’s origin is, so are the many attractions housed within it.

Tonbridge minibus Hire Company offers pocket-friendly coach tours through this beautiful market town revealing to you both its new and old. Get to learn how grand castles were built by the likes of Richard Fitz Gilbert or how great conspiracies were woven in the town as prominent names fought for political power. You will get to learn all this as you sit comfortably on your Mercedes 16 seater or a smaller Ford Transit 8 seater coach.

Things to Do in Tonbridge

Almost every edifice or monument has a story to tell about both the happy and grim past of the town. With our couch tours, we are going to give you a comprehensive trip through the city and teach you a little bit of history and other fun activities.

The Tonbridge Castle

This is a beautiful castle that has managed to keep all its stones intact since the medieval times. However, things weren’t always rosy for this grand looking castle; it has survived a series of coups, conspiracies as well as murder to be what it is today. The first takeover was from William Rufus who was later assassinated and King John took over after signing the Magna Carta.

Another coup was yet to be organised by Prince Edward who burnt both the town and castle down when preventing another takeover. Finally in the 13th century, the Castle was rebuilt and Henry VIII took over after the Duke of Buckingham, who owned it, was put to the death for treason claims.

The Motte

The Motte was a fortification construction made of either wood or stone that was used to shield off enemies as well as give the castle a vantage point during wars. On site, it looks like raised ground with trees and grass growing on it. The Tonbridge Motte has been preserved through the years and today still stands with plenty of lush grass growing around it.

Hop Farm Country Park

Hop Country Park is both an amusement park and a farm with plenty of activities for the entire family. If you have kids with you, they will definitely love the giant jumping pillows, the funfair rides, the outdoor adventure area as well as the magic castle. When they get too tired, you can treat them to some frosty cones at the Hopper’s Cream & Ice Bar. For some agricultural knowledge, make sure they visit the farm itself and see some of the various animal breeds reared. The Hop Farm has really taken measures to entertain its guests to even include a modern age 4D cinema experience. There are plenty of grounds to hire for weddings, birthdays and any other event that brings family & friends together.

Oast Theatre

This was formerly an Oast house before graduating to a small-sized theatre on the outskirts of Tonbridge town. The premise can hold up to 112 persons all coming to enjoy the various theatrical plays and musicals frequently held in the evenings. If you are not in the vicinity for a play or concert, then you will marvel at the hut-like construction of the theatre since only the interior of the oat house was renovated to make theatre.

Tonbridge Swimming Pool

This is Tonbridge’s personal water world for the whole family. There is an indoor pool that connects to the larger pool outside as well as plenty of Lido channels linking to the swimming pools; similar to the water slides you know of. On any warm afternoon, the Tonbridge Swimming Pool is the perfect place to spend with family or friends.
